Na een gedegen voorbereiding hebben we voor Emirates in drie weken tijd New York, Singapore en Dubai bezocht.
Zo hebben we (tussen de regen door) gefotografeerd bij zonsopgang op Columbus circle in centrum New York.
Ook hebben we een spetterend waterballet gehouden op een pier upstate New York.
De trip naar het grootste luchtballonnenfestival van de VS was bijna voor niets, omdat het weer niet meezat ( maar na een grote zonne- dans kwam alles goed)
Met behulp van grote regenmachines, hebben we onze eigen regen gemaakt in Singapore.
Een grote foodmarkt op straat in Singapore werd uitgelicht en gefotografeerd met twighlight
We hebben ge-skate met Arabische kinderen in een woestijndorpje in Dubai
Een spiksplinter nieuw vliegtuig heeft een dag stationair gedraaid (carbon-footprint…) in de hete zon van Dubai om een mooi plaatje te schieten.
Onderweg naar Singapore zijn we nog van productiebureau veranderd omdat de zaken in Singapore op zijn zachts gezegd niet goed geregeld waren.
We hebben dronken gekaraoked in een sleezy barretje nadat we cocktails hadden gedronken tussen de foute russen bij de Marina Bay Sands Resort
Al met al is er een prachtige productie gedraaid, met een prachtig eindresultaat !
After a thorough preparation we visited New York, Singapore and Dubai in a three week shoot for Emirates.
In between rain-showers we photographed the sunrise at Columbus circle in downtown New York.
We have held a sparkling water ballet on a pier upstate New York.
Our trip to the largest balloon festival in the US was almost in vain, because of wild weather conditions (but after a big sun dance the weather turned)
We have made our own rain with large rain-machines in Singapore.
We spotlighted a large food market on the streets of Singapore and photographed it with the use of twighlight
We rode skateboards with Arab children in a desert village in Dubai
A brand new aircraft was left running idle for the whole a day (carbon-footprint …) in the hot sun of Dubai to shoot a pretty picture.
We had to change production office in the plane to Singapore because things had not been organized properly there, to put it mildly.
There was a session of drunken karaoke in a sleezy bar, after drinking cocktails surrounded by dubious Russians at the Marina Bay Sands Resort.
All in all, we had a wonderful production with a beautiful endresult!

Dit is een echte Dominicaanse productie geworden.We werden met open armen (en 3 flessen rum) ontvangen. We hadden een crew van ongeveer 80 man die zichzelf prima bezig hielden. Elke visagist,stylist,en bureau-afgevaardigde kwam met minimaal een assistent. Maar als je dan vervolgens met 12 man bezig bent op straat, moet die straat afgezet worden, daar heb je dan weer 8 man met hesjes voor nodig. We hadden ook elektra nodig, dus kwam er iemand met een aggregaat (die vervoerd werd in een pick-up met bestuurder), was er iemand om de kabels uit te rollen en een speciale man voor de brandstof ( die brandstof overigens even vergeten was). De man van het lichtverhuur maakte continue duidelijk dat zijn assistenten met een truck met licht er elk moment aan kunnen komen, hij zou dit wel coördineren. De fotografie assistenten stonden met hun werkhandschoenen aan gedrieën naar een rolletje tape te zoeken, waarna dan vervolgens iemand ingehuurd werd om een nieuw rolletje te gaan kopen. Is er een plek waar de modellen zich om kunnen kleden ? Kan de 4e productie assistente even een bus regelen ? Een drie koppige videocrew hield zich bezig met het maken van een making off, waar ze, wat later bleek, ook nog een reportage over een sigarenroller in verwerkt hadden. Al die mensen moesten natuurlijk wel wat eten en drinken. Dus kwam de (geweldige) catering met 10 man aandraven met allemaal lekkers. Maar ja in de zon kan je niet eten dus maar even een tent verhuurbedrijf gebeld. Hoe houden we de drankjes koud ? Is het een goed idee om de straat hier naast af te zetten voor de catering-tenten ? Eten jullie ook mee jongens? Heeft iemand de fotograaf gezien ?

We were welcomed with open arms (and 3 bottles of rum).
We had a crew of about 80 men who knew how to keep themselves busy.
Every makeup artist, stylist, and office–delegate came with at least one assistant. But if you want to work with 12 men in the street, this street should be closed; therefore we needed to have 8 men with safty-jackets.
There was a special guy for the electricity which arrived in the form of an aggregate (in a pickup truck with driver), a special person to role out the cables and the designated man for the fuel (which he forgot to bring).
The man of light rental kept ensuring us that his assistants with a light truck were on their way, he was coordinating that.
The photography assistants are standing around with their work gloves on, all three of them looking for a roll of tape, when finally someone new is hired to buy a new one.
Is there a place where the models can dress? Can the 4th production assistant arrange a camperbus for that ?
All the while, a three-man video crew is busy shooting a making-of, to which they added (as it later turned out), a small documentary about a cigar roller.
All these people obviously needed food and drinks.
So a (great) 10 men catering team arrived with all the goodies.
But in the sun you can not eat, so somebody called a tent rental company.
How do we keep the drinks cold?
Is it a good idea to close the adjacent street, for the catering tents?

Bij deze opdracht gingen we uit van het beeld dat je ziet wanneer je in de Volvo zit, en de situatie zich voor je afspeeld. Om dit effect te bereiken, tilt de film dus een beetje mee met je blikveld. Bij de fotografie hebben we de mensen/honden met wat extra flitslicht uitgelicht.
With this assignment, we shot the film as if you are looking through the windshield of the Volvo and the action is happening right in front of you.
To achieve this effect, the film is tillting a little bit along with your field of vision.
For the photography, we put some additional flashlight on the people/dogs.

Maurice Heesen nodigde me uit voor een vrij werk project in Argentinie.
De eerste twee weken hebben we volledig geënsceneerde en geproduceerde platen gemaakt in Buenos Aires en omstreken.
Daarna zijn we met een auto vol romantische prularia Argentinië in getrokken om te kijken of we de serie nog aan konden vullen.
Terwijl Maurice de “Don Quichot” foto schoot, draaide ik het op film.
Maurice heeft vervolgens van deze film een loop gemaakt en er muziek onder gezet.
Maurice Heesen invited me to join him for a free work project in Argentina.
The first two weeks we made some staged and completely produced shoots, in and around Buenos Aires.
Then we drove a car filled with romantic trinkets through argentina, to see if we could complete the serie with some more pictures.
While Maurice shot the “Don Quixote” photo , I shot it on film.
Maurice then looped the sequence and scored the music.
